When the Museum of Natural History is closed for upgrades and
renovations, the museum pieces are moved into federal storage at the
famous Washington Museums. The centerpiece of the film will be bringing
to life the Smithsonian Institution, which houses the world's largest
museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections,
ranging from the plane Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) flew on her non-stop
solo flight across the Atlantic and Al Capone's (Jon Bernthal) rap
sheet and mug shot to Dorothy's ruby slippers, Fonzie's jacket from
Happy Days, the still from M*A*S*H and Archie Bunker's lounge chair
from All in the Family. With a forwarded resume, Larry (Ben Stiller)
becomes another caretaker at the Smithsonian, where Kahmunrah, an evil
Pharaoh will come to life with the reestablishing of a tablet as a
magical force in the museum bringing the old exhibits (Such as Theodore
Roosevelt and Dexter) and new exhibits (like General Custer and Al
Capone) back to life, and in conflict with each other. Larry enlists
the help of Amelia Earheart, who he develops a romantic interest in,
and together they try to put everything back in order.

Except for Ms. Pac-Man, Lara Croft is arguably the best-known female
video game character ever. As the ?star? of Edios? Tomb Raider series,
sporting a British accent, sleek moves and outfits that pack more than
pistols, Croft walks the precariously thin line between post-feminist
icon and fanboy drool instigator.
As a result, it might seem easy to make a movie based on her, but both
the Tomb Raider feature films were abysmal junk, and most fan efforts
to date have haven?t done her justice either. These factors make the
brand-new fan production, Tomb Raider: Ascension, all the more
surprising?it?s a great flick that simply leaves other incarnations of
Croft and Co. in its dust.
Here?s a fan film that feels like a feature?not necessarily in terms of
budget (though it?s not chintzy), but rather due to the quality of
writing, acting, editing and camerawork. Throughout the movie, time and
again, the usual fan film pitfalls are avoided. For instance?and it?s
no small thing?the actors interact; they?re not merely reciting lines.
For that matter, they?re all different ages, too?something of a rarity
in fan movies.

While Ben Gates is presenting new information about John Wilkes Booth
and the 18 pages missing from Booth's diary, a man by the name of Mitch
Wilkinson stands up and presents a missing page of John Wilkes Booth's
diary. Thomas Gates, Ben's great-grandfather, is mentioned on the page.
It shows that Ben's great-grandfather was a co-conspirator in Abraham
Lincoln's murder. When doing more research, the conspiracy takes Ben,
Abigail Chase, and Riley Poole to Buckingham Palace (which they break
into). They discover a plank that has early Native American writing on
it. The plank has only one symbol that Patrick Gates can identify. The
symbol is Cibola (see-bowl-uh) meaning the City of Gold. In order to
define the rest the have to go to Ben's mother, Patrick's divorced
wife. After 32 years it brings back old arguments. After that the other
clue is in the President's desk in the Oval Office in the White House
(which Ben and Abigail sneak into) to discover that the clue lies in
The President's Book. But in order to see the book, their choice is
either get elected president or kidnap the President of the United
States. Which do they choose? It's obvious. With Wilkinson close on
their tail, they find the book in the Library of Congress. The
conspiracy then crosses to Mount Rushmore where the clue was on the
hills, but (according to the Book) President Calvin Coolidge had the
faces carved in so no one can find the City of Gold. When they get
there they find out that they must work with Wilkinson since he has
some clues of his own. Who will claim Cibola? And will the name of
Gates be known as murder?
